gemini-omni-flash-preview: Oct 22 shutdown on the table, not Sep 30
Google's release note says gemini-omni-flash-preview is deprecated on Sept 30, 2026, but its deprecations table now lists Oct 22. What to pin and what to test.

Google's release notes of August 27 said the gemini-omni-flash-preview endpoint "will be deprecated on September 30, 2026". The deprecations page now lists its shutdown as October 22, 2026, the same day as the Veo 3.1 previews. Deprecation and shutdown are different events, so both dates can be right. Move before the earlier one anyway.
The dates in one place
A deprecation marks a model as on its way out. A shutdown is when calls stop. Google says its listed shutdown dates are the earliest possible dates.
| Model id | Released | Shutdown | Replacement |
|---|---|---|---|
| gemini-omni-flash-preview | June 30, 2026 | October 22, 2026 | gemini-omni-1.1-flash |
| gemini-omni-1.1-flash | August 27, 2026 | None announced | - |
| veo-3.1-generate-preview | October 15, 2025 | October 22, 2026 | gemini-omni-1.1-flash |
| veo-3.1-lite-generate-preview | March 31, 2026 | October 22, 2026 | gemini-omni-1.1-flash |
What the GA model adds
The release note lists three new capabilities in gemini-omni-1.1-flash: video extension from the end of a clip, a first-and-last-frame mode with up to 2 images, and a resolution field with 360p, 720p (the default), 1080p and 4k. It adds that 1080p and 4K are made by upscaling.
What to do this week
- Search your code for
gemini-omni-flash-previewand replace it withgemini-omni-1.1-flash. - Re-run your prompts, since a GA model can answer differently from the preview.
- Set a calendar reminder for October 22, not September 30, but treat September 30 as a possible early cutoff.
On Sume
Sume's Video Router docs list one Omni id, gemini-omni-flash-1.1, at 3 to 10 seconds with 360p, 720p, 1080p and 4K. Sume routes by request shape, so there is no preview id to retire on your side. Note the id word order differs from Google's gemini-omni-1.1-flash.
