AI backdrops for TikTok Shop: staging must match what you sell
TikTok Shop's page says LIVE backgrounds and staging items must match the products sold. How to review a generated backdrop and use video filter dim or crop.

One line of the TikTok Shop page is easy to miss in a generated scene: for LIVE, "Your LIVE background and staging must reflect the products you are actually selling." That sentence is under the LIVE-specific rules, so apply it as written to LIVE and as a sensible check on posted videos.
A review pass
- Is every prop in frame something you sell or normal context for it?
- Does the backdrop imply a feature the product lacks?
- Is the product the sharpest, brightest thing in frame?
Cheap pixel fixes
The video filter API has a dim op that multiplies luma by an amount in (0, 1], so 0.45 makes the clip darker, and a crop op with fractions of the frame. Both return a new MP4. The check route validates the program for free first, and an encode costs $0.02 per job.
| Problem | Op |
|---|---|
| Busy backdrop pulls the eye | dim, amount 0.6 |
| Stray prop at the edge | crop, x/width fractions |
| Wrong object in the middle | regenerate, filter cannot remove it |
Free check
The dry run: no job is created.
import json, os, urllib.request
body = {
"video_url": "https://media.sume.com/artifacts/example/shot.mp4",
"ops": [{"op": "dim", "amount": 0.6}],
}
req = urllib.request.Request(
"https://api.sume.com/v1/video-filter/check",
data=json.dumps(body).encode(),
headers={
"Authorization": "Bearer " + os.environ["SUME_API_KEY"],
"Content-Type": "application/json",
},
method="POST",
)
print(urllib.request.urlopen(req).read().decode())Limit
Filters adjust pixels. They cannot make a mismatched prop honest; regenerate the scene instead.
