Adobe: do not remove Content Credentials. Check before you trim a clip
Adobe's Gen AI guidelines say users must not remove, alter or disable Content Credentials. Before a trim or filter on Sume, test whether your file keeps them.

If you use Adobe's generative tools, the Gen AI user guidelines say Adobe may attach or publish Content Credentials, and users must not remove, alter or disable them. A later trim or filter step that writes a new file is where a credential could be lost, so test that step before it becomes routine.
What the guidelines say
The same page prohibits misleading, fraudulent or deceptive content that could lead to real-world harm, and impersonation, and prohibits violating third-party rights. It does not address likeness explicitly in what I read.
| Topic | Page says |
|---|---|
| Content Credentials | Adobe may attach or publish; users must not remove, alter or disable |
| Deceptive content | Prohibited when it could lead to real-world harm |
| Impersonation | Prohibited |
| Third-party rights | Violations prohibited |
Where a new file appears
Sume video trim and video filter each return a new MP4 artifact and leave the source untouched. Trim is $0.02 per job and filter is $0.02 per encode job, with a free check endpoint for filter programs. The docs do not say whether embedded metadata carries from source to output.
A safe routine
Keep the original with its credentials as the record, and publish the derived file with a note linking to the original. Then test the derived file with the reader you use. See C2PA 2.3 editing history for how the spec treats a resize after a trim.
- Keep the source artifact; neither endpoint changes it.
- Check the output with your own credential reader.
- Do not strip credentials on purpose.
