## What a job costs

Jobs made with an open.sume.com key are paid in US dollars from your open.sume.com balance. Top up in the dashboard under **Billing**.

1. **Before you submit**, [Estimate a price](/docs/reference/catalog/estimate) returns the exact price for a request. It is free and needs no key.
2. **When you submit**, the price is reserved from your balance. If the balance is too low, the submit fails with `402 insufficient_funds` and creates no job.
3. **When the job ends**, the reservation is charged if it completed, and refunded if it failed or was canceled.

A submit refused at the concurrency cap is refunded at once.

[List open models](/docs/reference/catalog/list) gives every model's dollar price, including the price for each quality or resolution.

## Adding funds

Add funds on the **Billing** page with a card; the smallest top-up is $5. From code, [Top up your balance](/docs/reference/billing/top-up) starts the same top-up with your API key and returns a checkout link to pay. Turn on **Auto top-up** there to refill the balance when it falls below an amount you choose, so long runs do not stop at `402 insufficient_funds`. Every top-up, charge and refund is in the transaction history, with a receipt.

The model lists ([image](/docs/reference/images/list-models), [video](/docs/reference/video/list-models)) show Sume credit prices; the dollar price your key pays is in [List open models](/docs/reference/catalog/list) and [Estimate a price](/docs/reference/catalog/estimate).

## Seeing what you spent

The dashboard's **Analytics** page lists spend by day and by model, and every key's spend is on the **API keys** page.
