Sume Agent Completions request: required cap, model sume-agent
The minimum valid POST /v1/agent/completions body: instruction or messages, no assistant turns, model sume-agent, required generation_spend_cap_usd.

A valid request has either instruction or messages, never both, and messages may not contain assistant turns. generation_spend_cap_usd is required, and model, when you send it, must be sume-agent. The response is a receipt with an agrun_ id; poll /v1/agent-runs/{id}. Each call starts a fresh thread, so context does not carry across calls, and there is no streaming.
Keys need agent_completions:write to create and agent_completions:read to poll.
Request
curl -X POST https://api.sume.com/v1/agent/completions \
-H "x-api-key: $SUME_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{
"model": "sume-agent",
"instruction": "Make a 6-second looping product shot of a ceramic mug.",
"generation_spend_cap_usd": 10
}'Common 400s
| Mistake | Why it fails |
|---|---|
| Both instruction and messages | Only one input form is allowed |
| An assistant message in messages | Assistant turns are not accepted |
| Missing generation_spend_cap_usd | The cap is required |
| model other than sume-agent | Only one model value |
Carry context yourself
Because every call is a fresh thread, put prior facts in the instruction or pass them in messages as user turns.

- Sume output_schema name: slashes allowed, rewritten upstream
Names like sume/action-image-v1 are accepted (A-Z a-z 0-9 . _ / -, up to 64 chars) and echoed back unchanged. Only the structuring call sees a rewritten name.
- Sume schedule: cron or API call is fixed when you create it
A Scheduled agent's trigger_type cannot change after creation. Cron schedules can also accept API runs; API-only ones never gain a cadence. How to choose.
- Sume Action overlap: on_active_run skip gives 200, reject gives 409
What happens when a Sume Action run starts while the last one is active: skip gives 200 with status skipped, reject gives 409 action_run_in_progress.
- Sume Scheduled has no MCP tool or CLI command: your options
Schedules are not exposed over Sume MCP or the CLI, and the API cannot create them. Author in the dashboard or ask the Agent in chat; run and monitor by API.
